History
Tierra Armada is founded in France. The first walls and abutments are produced for public infrastructure projects. Tierra Armada begins to plan its expansion into neighboring countries.
The first reinforced Earth walls are constructed in Spain. Situated in Puerto de la Cruz, on the island of Tenerife, this wall is still in use today.
The wall, which contains the highway leading into the city, was constructed with a galvanized metallic mantle.
Tierra Armada is founded in Spain. It is conceived as an independent self sufficient entity. A technical department is also incorporated which is in charge of the design of the walls and bridges erected in Spain.
The first Tierra Armada factory is set up in Mejorada del Campo (Madrid). Precast components are created here and distributed throughout Spain.
Little by little new technologies are incorporated in order to increase production capacity and improve product quality.
1978 - The initial system of fixed molds is abandoned and the first assembly line for the production of precast panels is created. The workers and concrete filling chute remain in place while the molds move from station to station.
1979 - “Manual for the Design and Construction of Reinforced Earth Structures” is published in France. This is the first guide specifically created to aid in the calculation and design of a product with rapidly increasing demand.
1983 - A milestone is reached. 500,000 m2 of reinforced earth walls have been manufactured to date.
1984 - The first precast concrete walls are produced panel and buttresses modular walls are produced separately and assembled on site. Product diversification begins.
The first three hinged arch systems are produced. Originally produced on site with fixed molds, production then moves to the factory at Mejorada del Campo with variable format molds.
1989 - The Ministry of Public Works in Spain publishes the “Manual for the design and Construction of Reinforced Earth Structures”. The value of this rapidly developing method of the construction gains official recognition.
1991 - A new limestone is reached. One million square meters of reinforced earth walls has been produced at the factory at Mejorada del Campo (Madrid).
Tierra Armada's second factory is set up and begins to produce “double T” beams in Loeches (Madrid). The production of buttresses is moved due to increased production.
Tierra Armada becomes a part of the FREYSSINET group.
For the first time Tierra Armada produces components onsite. These will be used in the construction of a double false tunnel as part of the “Rande-Puxeiros (PO)” project.
The molds cranes and workface are installed close to the site where the prefabricated material is assembled.
2000 - Beams 45 meters long and 2.05 m. high are produced for the construction of the M-45 highway. These large dimension beams will be used on one of the most important infrastructure projects: The Madrid ring highway.
2001 - Two million square meters of reinforced earth walls has been constructed at the factory at Mejorada del Campo (Madrid).
The first “U” beams are produced at the factory in Loeches (Madrid). With the addition of new molds and an increase in production space, Tierra Armada, S.A. continues to add to an already wide away of products.
2005 - The second precast panel assembly line begins operation. This year alone 200,00 m2 of reinforced earth walls will be produced.
2007 - The GeoMega@ system of synthetic reinforced earth wall and buttress connections is launched. Taking into account the Freyssinet Group’s experience in the production of synthetic reinforcements, production technology is greatly improved and a large market sector is covered.
Another record has been broken. Three million square meters of reinforced earth walls has been constructed at the factory at Mejorada del Campo (Madrid).
